On August 13, 2026, parts of Europe witnessed a breathtaking total solar eclipse. While India could not witness this event directly due to our geographic position and nighttime hours, Indian space scientists were observing it very closely.
During a total eclipse, the Moon perfectly shields the Sun’s blinding glare, revealing its mysterious outer atmosphere called the ‘Solar Corona’. Understanding this glowing halo is crucial for us. The Corona is the birthplace of violent solar storms that travel through space. If these storms strike Earth, they can permanently damage our communication satellites, disrupt GPS navigation, and cause massive failures in our power grids. By studying this eclipse, India is learning to protect its vital digital infrastructure.

2 · How an Eclipse Helps Protect Earth
