1 · What is the news?
| We send our children to school expecting them to build bright futures, but a shocking new global report shows that their learning environments might be silently harming them. According to the Center for Global Development, a staggering 91.2% of private schools in New Delhi are located within just 5 km of toxic waste sites.
These hidden dumping grounds leak dangerous chemicals like lead and mercury into the air and soil. For young children, inhaling or touching lead is catastrophic—it permanently damages their brain development and lowers their IQ. If we want our youth to succeed, we must urgently stop unregulated local scrap dealers from melting toxic batteries right next to our neighborhoods and schools. |
2 · How the Poison Reaches Our Kids

Every day, thousands of old lead-acid batteries from cars and home inverters are thrown away. |

Instead of going to safe factories, 90% of these batteries are bought by informal local scrap dealers who forcefully break them open and melt the lead using basic blowtorches. |
