1 · What is the issue?

We all learned in school about Gregor Mendel’s rules – that we inherit fixed physical traits from our parents through our DNA. For a long time, scientists thought the DNA sequence (the A, T, G, C letters) was the complete story.
However, a groundbreaking new study shows that our genes have a massive “second volume” called Epigenetics. Think of your DNA as the hardware of a computer, and epigenetics as the software that tells the hardware what to do. Tiny chemical tags can switch your genes ‘on’ or ‘off’ based on things like your environment or diet, without changing the actual DNA code. Surprisingly, scientists found that these chemical “switches” can be passed down to your children, completely breaking traditional genetic rules!

2 · How Epigenetics Works

Step 1: The Genetic Base
Every human cell carries a standard DNA sequence. This sequence contains the basic instructions to build proteins and run the body.
Step 2: The Chemical Switch (Methylation)
Small chemical compounds (methyl groups) attach themselves to the DNA. When they attach, they essentially put a “lock” on the gene, turning it OFF.
Step 3: Breaking the ‘Reset’ Rule
Normally, these chemical locks are “reset” or erased when a baby is conceived. But the new study proves that some of these locks survive and are inherited by the child.
Step 4: Paramutation (Rewriting Genes)
