1 · What is the issue?
| Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is currently burning with massive protests. What started as a simple plea for cheaper electricity and subsidized flour has turned into a massive political uprising. The ordinary citizens of PoK are tired of Pakistan’s unfair control over their local elections and resources. When the people demanded democratic reforms, the Pakistani security forces responded with brutal force, resulting in the tragic deaths of over 80 unarmed civilians. For India and the world, this exposes how Pakistan treats the people living in the territories it has illegally occupied, highlighting a severe human rights crisis right in our neighborhood. |
2 · How the Crisis Erupted
|
Step 1: Economic Pain
Following the pandemic, the locals struggled heavily with inflation. The protests initially started simply to demand cheaper flour and electricity. |
| ▼ |
|
Step 2: The Political Awakening
The demands quickly expanded into a 38-point charter. The biggest demand? Remove 12 “fake” assembly seats that Islamabad uses to control PoK. |
| ▼ |
|
Step 3: The Brutal Crackdown
Instead of listening, Pakistani security forces used assault rifles against unarmed protesters, killing dozens, including a PhD scholar. |
| ▼ |
|
Step 4: Global Condemnation
India and international rights groups like Amnesty International heavily condemned the killings and internet blackouts, validating India’s stance on PoK. |
3 · Key Governance Concepts
|
The 12 Refugee Seats
Rigging the System
Out of 45 elected seats in PoK, 12 are for “refugees” who actually live in mainland Pakistan (like Punjab). Islamabad uses these votes as a trump card to install its own puppet leaders.
|
JKJAAC
The Protestors
The Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee is leading the civil rights movement. Pakistan quickly banned them under anti-terrorism laws to crush their voice.
|
|
India’s Stand
Highlighting Abuse
India strongly condemned the killings, reminding the world that PoK is legally Indian territory. These protests prove that Pakistan’s “elections” there are just a fake facade.
|
The Blowback
Karma for Terror
Pakistani officials themselves admitted that the armed groups they once trained to attack India are now turning their guns inward, causing chaos inside their own borders.
