| Counting wild animals like tigers or rare birds in India’s thick forests is incredibly difficult. Usually, forest guards spend days trying to spot them with their own eyes. But what if we just listened instead? Recently, a passionate group of nature lovers and scientists created India’s first-ever public “sound library” of the forest. They recorded over 5,800 minutes of animal calls across 25 states. Why did they do this? Because current global AI tools only recognize American or European animals. This massive new library will finally teach Artificial Intelligence (AI) to recognize the unique voices of Indian birds, frogs, and tigers. It is a beautiful way to track and protect our wildlife without ever disturbing their peace. |
2 · How We Track Animals Using Sound
