Since the deadly 2020 Galwan clash, senior Indian and Chinese military commanders have only held peace talks in the Western border areas (Ladakh). But recently, for the first time ever, these high-level Corps Commander talks were expanded to the Eastern border in Arunachal Pradesh.
These talks happened at the Vacha-Damai border point because of rising tensions over Chinese troops allegedly entering Indian territory (Taksing area). Furthermore, with India hosting the BRICS Summit soon, both nations need to ensure border peace so that military conflicts don’t ruin major diplomatic events.

2 · Understanding the Border Shift

Step 1: The Ladakh Focus
For years, top-level military talks were restricted only to the Western Sector (Chushul-Moldo) to solve standoffs in Ladakh.

By opening talks in Arunachal Pradesh, both armies have finally created a formal way to solve crises across the entire Line of Actual Control (LAC).
