Homegrown Power: Why Private Giants are Trusting India’s Indigenous Nuclear Reactors

| India has set a massive goal: generating 100 GW of clean nuclear power by 2047. To achieve this, the government passed the SHANTI Act, 2025, finally allowing private companies like NTPC, Adani, and Jindal to build and run nuclear plants. However, a beautiful trend has emerged. Instead of importing shiny, expensive foreign reactors, these private giants are choosing India’s very own, homegrown 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR). It proves that India’s decades of hard-fought, indigenous scientific research have matured into a reliable, globally competitive commercial technology, making the nation truly self-reliant in clean energy. |
