About National Handloom Day

  • 7 August 1905 marked the launch of the Swadeshi Movement, which encouraged the use of indigenous goods and rejection of foreign products.

National Handloom Day 2026 in Assam

  • The Bodoland Territorial Council organised an exhibition at Mushalpur displaying traditional handwoven products and felicitated 18 award-winning weavers and 25 Primary Weavers’ Cooperative Societies.
  • The council is encouraging the use of locally woven products as official gifts and during government programmes.
  • Assam’s handloom sector has received national recognition, with weavers winning national-level awards for craftsmanship.
