1 · What is the issue?

Farmers living near forests often face deadly animal attacks and massive crop destruction. This tragic clash is known as Human-Wildlife Conflict. To stop this without hurting the animals, the Kerala Forest Department has introduced an AI-driven digital guard called ‘Farmguard’.
Deployed near the sensitive Western Ghats borders, this smart system watches the forest edges 24/7. When a wild animal approaches, it instantly alerts forest guards and blasts dynamic sounds to scare the animal away safely. It has shown a near-100% success rate, proving how modern technology can beautifully protect both human livelihoods and wildlife.

2 · How Farmguard Works

Step 1: 24/7 Digital Watch
High-tech, night-vision cameras continuously scan a 200-metre area along the forest border, looking for any movement.
Step 2: Smart Identification
The AI instantly analyzes the movement to check if it’s just a blowing tree or a dangerous animal like an elephant, tiger, or wild boar.
Step 3: Instant SOS
The moment a threat is confirmed, the system fires off real-time alerts via SMS and WhatsApp to local Rapid Response Teams (RRTs).
Step 4: The Smart Scare
To chase the animal away, it plays loud, unpredictable sounds (like firecrackers) and low-frequency noises, ensuring the animal safely returns to the forest.
