1. What is the News?

Global AI giants (like OpenAI) are changing their business model. They are no longer just selling AI chatbots to the public. They are now entering Enterprise AI by acting as direct IT consultants. They send their own engineers to big companies to set up custom AI systems.

2. Why the Shift? (The “Integration Bottleneck”)

• The Problem: Big companies run on outdated, fragmented software (legacy systems) and lack the talent to safely install modern AI.
• The Solution: AI labs are stepping in directly to do the installation and workflow integration.
• The Economic Motive: Training AI requires billions of dollars. AI labs need stable, multi-year corporate contracts. By setting up the AI themselves, they create “Ecosystem Lock-in”—making the client completely dependent on their specific technology.

3. The Threat to Indian IT (The “Dual Squeeze”)

This is a massive threat to India’s $280-billion IT sector (TCS, Infosys, Wipro), which employs millions of middle-class youth. Indian IT faces a double blow:

• Losing the Bottom: Routine coding, software testing, and IT maintenance jobs are now being automated by AI.

To protect our digital economy and jobs, administrators must push two agendas:

• Sovereign AI: We cannot let foreign monopolies control our corporate data. The IndiaAI Mission (under MeitY) is urgently building indigenous computing power and homegrown AI models.
• Leveraging Domain Expertise: The era of “body shopping” (providing cheap mass labor for basic coding) is over. Indian IT must use its domain expertise (deep knowledge of how Indian banks, hospitals, and markets work) to partner with global AI labs and offer customized solutions.
