1 · What is the news in simple words?

Just as a smartphone heats up and drains its battery quickly when running heavy apps, massive computers running Artificial Intelligence (AI) consume enormous amounts of electricity. The government recently warned that AI data centres in India will need a staggering 26.3 Gigawatts (GW) of extra electricity by 2031-32. This is double their previous estimate.
While India’s digital boom is excellent for our youth and economy, these giant computer hubs are currently crowded in big cities. This creates a severe risk of overloading local power grids, which could cause power cuts for common citizens. To solve this, the government is planning a smart shift: moving these data centres away from crowded cities and placing them next to green energy hubs (solar and wind parks).
