About International Day of Yoga
- The idea of IDY was first proposed by India during the opening of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly, held in 2014.
- The UN proclaimed 21st June as IDY by passing a resolution in December 2014.
- The first Yoga Day in India was celebrated in 2015 at Rajpath in New Delhi.
- June 21 (summer solstice), is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
- Therefore, it was decided that the IDY would be celebrated on this day.
