The Government of Assam has released the first tranche of an interim flood relief package worth ₹112 crore to provide immediate financial assistance to nearly 75,000 flood-affected families across Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts.

Key Highlights

• The Chief Minister launched the relief package to support families affected by the recent devastating floods in Upper Assam.
• Around ₹112 crore has been transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the DBT system, ensuring transparent and timely delivery of financial assistance.
• Each eligible family will receive ₹15,000 as immediate interim assistance to help repair damaged houses and meet essential expenses while rebuilding their livelihoods.
• Families in Sivasagar and Charaideo that remain displaced even after 9 August will receive an additional ₹10,000, which will be disbursed on 10 August.

Other Relief Measures Announced

• Each flood-affected school will receive ₹2.10 lakh as immediate repair assistance, with additional support after the completion of damage assessment.
• Free textbooks will be provided to all flood-affected students, while school uniforms will be distributed through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
• Each affected Namghar (traditional Assamese community prayer hall) will receive ₹1.5 lakh for restoration.
• One year’s land revenue (Khazana) and July electricity bills have been waived for affected beneficiaries.
• The government will organise special training for district officials to improve the accuracy and efficiency of post-disaster damage assessment surveys.
