• The Health and Family Welfare Department has identified challenges involving early detection of pregnancy-induced hypertension, healthcare access in remote areas, infection control in labour rooms and early identification of sick newborns.
• The Science and Technology Department has proposed challenges involving satellites, drones and artificial intelligence for crop-health monitoring, wetland mapping, government-land encroachment and flood management.
• Urban authorities are looking for technology that can detect blocked culverts and help address drainage and waterlogging in Guwahati.
• The programme also seeks technological solutions for problems relating to agriculture, tea, infrastructure and energy.

Government as the First Customer

• One of the most important ideas behind NESFIC is to make the government a potential first customer for successful innovations.
• Young startups often struggle to enter government markets because conventional procurement may require previous experience, high turnover or financial guarantees. 
• NESFIC attempts to create a structured route through which promising innovations can move towards actual government adoption.

Roadmap

• 150 startups are expected to be selected, with three startups associated with each of the 50 challenges.
• Selected startups will receive idea-stage support, mentoring, relevant data and access to testing sites.
• At the proposed Demo Day in February 2027, the best solution for each challenge can receive a Minimum Viable Product grant of ₹20 lakh.
• A qualifying deep-technology solution can receive a grant of up to ₹40 lakh.
