• In a significant reform in school curriculum, the Assam Cabinet has decided that Assam History and Assam Geography will be compulsory subjects for students of Class VI, VII and VIII in all state government schools.
  • The decision is inspired by the recommendations of Justice B.K. Sharma Committee formed for the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, which emphasises preservation of Assamese identity and cultural heritage.
  • The Chief Minister stated that both subjects will carry 50 marks separately, making them full-fledged components of school education and not optional modules.

This step aims to create deeper awareness among young learners about Assam’s historical legacy, ethnic diversity, geography, ecology, and socio-cultural evolution.
