Assam Chief Minister inaugurated the new Assam Bhavan in Bengaluru on 16 October 2026. Built at an estimated cost of ₹71.24 crore, the facility aims to support people travelling from Assam for medical treatment, higher education, official work and other purposes while strengthening cultural and administrative ties between Assam and Karnataka.

What Is Assam Bhavan?

• Assam Bhavan is a state-supported facility established outside Assam to provide accommodation, administrative support and a community space for people from the state.
• The newly inaugurated building is located in the Ramohalli area of Bengaluru and has been designed as a “home away from home” for Assamese residents and visitors.
• The four-storey facility includes conference halls, rooms for visiting officials, accommodation for guests, a restaurant serving traditional Assamese cuisine, a gym and indoor sports facilities.
• It is expected to benefit Bengaluru’s estimated four lakh Assamese residents, along with students, patients and families travelling from Assam.
• The Bhavan will also host cultural programmes, community meetings and official gatherings, helping people maintain their connection with their home state.

Project Background

• Construction of the Bengaluru Assam Bhavan began in 2016 but was delayed because of issues involving the Karnataka government’s Revenue Department.
• Work resumed in 2022 following the resolution of these issues.
• The inauguration reflects cooperation between the governments of Assam and Karnataka in developing facilities for citizens who live, study, work or seek healthcare outside their home state.
