1 · What is the news?
| Imagine a huge, 23-kilometer-long wall made of mud and deep trenches cutting a small city into two pieces. This is exactly what is happening in the Gaza Strip right now. Israel is building giant “earthen barriers” to physically divide the land. The eastern side stays under Israeli military control, while displaced Palestinians are crowded into the western side.
Initially, this division was meant to be a temporary line for peace talks (called the “Yellow Line”). But now, these permanent mud walls are destroying the hopes of the Palestinian people to ever have a unified, independent country. For UPSC aspirants, understanding this border crisis is very important because India strongly supports a peaceful “Two-State Solution”, and cutting Gaza in half threatens this core foreign policy. |
2 · How the Land is Being Divided

Step 1: The ‘Yellow Line’ Plan
During the 2025 peace plan, a temporary line was drawn on the map, giving Israel military control over 53% of eastern Gaza. |

To secure this line, massive bulldozers were brought in to pile up giant mounds of dirt (berms) and dig deep trenches across the land. |
