1 · What is the news?

Wild foragers made a mistake for decades, they uprooted the entire ‘Kutki’ plant—a highly prized Himalayan medicinal herb—wrongly believing its medicine lay deep in its roots, pushing it to the edge of extinction.
Now, science has stepped in to teach “smart work.” Researchers showed farmers in Himachal Pradesh that the actual medicine is in the plant’s stolon (a side-creeping stem). By harvesting only these side stems, the “mother plant” stays alive and keeps producing for years! This simple scientific correction is reviving an endangered species, stopping illegal biopiracy, and boosting the income of poor mountain farmers.
