Let us understand the big news first. At the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai, China officially launched its very own international organization called the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO).

A total of 29 countries—including Russia, Brazil, South Africa, and Pakistan—have joined hands as founding members. And the United States was left out.

For the first time, instead of just following rules made by the West, China is stepping in early to write the global rules for Artificial Intelligence. They are actively reaching out to developing nations (the Global South) by promising shared technology and free training.
