Residents of Choto Pokalagi village on the Assam–West Bengal border have received electricity for the first time since Independence.
- Choto Pokalagi under Agomoni Tehsil in Dhubri has finally emerged from decades of darkness, powered through a rare and strategic cross-border electricity arrangement with neighbouring West Bengal.
- The village, though administratively part of Assam, is geographically surrounded by West Bengal from 3-sides.
- The breakthrough was achieved through coordinated efforts of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) and the West Bengal electricity department.
- The electrification project was executed by the Agomoni Electrical Sub-Division under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Why Was Electrification Delayed?
- The village’s geographical isolation posed connectivity challenges.
- Inter-state coordination issues slowed progress.
- Infrastructure expansion in remote border areas often faces administrative and technical hurdles.
