Why in the News?
The Assam government has launched the Chief Minister’s Foreign Languages Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT) to train Assamese youth in Japanese language and culture and connect them to employment in Japan under the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa programme. Implemented via the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM), it aligns with Japan’s workforce needs and India’s Act East Policy, marking a subnational diplomacy effort linking Assam’s human capital with Japan’s ageing economy.
