Tripura has won three prestigious National Panchayat Awards 2025 instituted by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India.

About the National Panchayat Awards

    • The National Panchayat Awards are presented annually to acknowledge and incentivize outstanding performance by panchayats and related institutions across the country. 
    • The awards are instituted by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
    • It recognises the dedication and tireless efforts of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in empowering rural communities through good governance and inclusive development.
    • The winners receive a trophy, certificates, and a cash prize₹1 crore for first place, ₹75 lakhs for second, and ₹50 lakhs for third.
    • The awards are conferred under two distinct categories:  Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) & Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP)
    • DDUPSVP recognises outstanding Gram Panchayats for their performance across 9 Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs) themes, namely: 
  • Poverty-Free and Enhanced Livelihoods, Healthy Panchayat, Child-Friendly Panchayat, Water-Sufficient Panchayat, Clean and Green Panchayat, Self-Sufficient Infrastructure, Socially Just and Socially Secured Panchayat, Panchayat with Good Governance and Women-Friendly Panchayat. 
    • Under each theme, awards are conferred for Rank 1, Rank 2 and Rank 3. 
    • Under NPA-2025, 34 Gram Panchayats spread across 17 States and UTs have been selected under DDUPSVP that also includes joint winners. 
    • These thematic awards have been linked to the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0 scores. 
  • NDSPSVP is conferred to the best-performing Panchayats at the District, Block, and Gram Panchayat levels on an overall basis. 
  • Under NPA-2025, 8 Panchayats have been selected as winners, comprising 3 under the Best District Panchayat category, 2 under Best Block Panchayat and 3 under Best Gram Panchayat category.
  • The awards are given under the Incentivization of Panchayats (IoP) scheme, a central component of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA). 

Key Achievements of Tripura

1. Sepahijala District Panchayat – Best District Panchayat in India

  • It secured the first position under the NDSPSVP.
  • It was recognized for excellence in implementing SDGs through effective planning, public participation, and development-oriented governance.
  • The award carries a financial incentive of ₹5 crore.

2. Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat, Unakoti District

  • It secured the first position nationally in the Healthy Panchayat Category under the DDUPSVP.
  • It was honoured for its strong public health initiatives, healthcare outreach programmes, and community-based interventions.
  • The Panchayat received ₹1 crore as incentive support.

3. Baikunthapur Gram Panchayat, West Tripura

  • It secured the third position nationally in the Women-Friendly Panchayat Category.
  • It was recognized for promoting women’s empowerment, gender-sensitive governance, social inclusion, and community participation.
  • The award includes a financial incentive of ₹50 lakh.
