Five railway stations under the Northeast Frontier Railway have been awarded the prestigious ‘Eat Right Station’ certification by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. 

• The certified stations are Dimapur, Alipurduar, Kokrajhar, Golakganj and New Mal Junction.

What is ‘Eat Right Station’?

The certification is a flagship initiative under the Eat Right India movement, launched by FSSAI in 2018. It aims to promote:

• Safe and hygienic food practices at railway stations.
• Compliance with food safety regulations.
• Availability of nutritious and sustainable food options.
• Consumer awareness about healthy eating habits.

Stations undergo a comprehensive audit covering food stalls, catering units, storage systems, waste management and hygiene practices.

Dimapur Railway Station has received certification valid from October 2025 to October 2027 after meeting stringent standards.

Why is it Important?

• Addresses rising concerns of diet-related diseases such as diabetes and heart ailments.
• Ensures food safety against microbial contamination and chemical residues.
• Strengthens implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
• Enhances passenger confidence in railway food services.

As of February 2024, around 150 railway stations across India have been certified under this initiative.
