The Government of Assam has announced the winners of the Assam State Film Awards for the years 2020 and 2021, recognising excellence in Assamese and regional cinema across 40 categories.

The awards were announced by Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, along with the Chairman of the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Limited. The initiative aims to promote regional cinema, preserve Assamese cultural narratives, and strengthen the state’s creative industry.

Financial Assistance for Mini Cinema Halls

• The government announced ₹50 lakh financial assistance each to 10 beneficiaries for setting up mini cinema halls across Assam.
• This move aims to revive theatre culture and improve access to cinema in semi-urban and rural areas.
• Beneficiaries include projects in Bokakhat, Hojai, Dergaon, Duliajan, Nalbari, Biswanath, North Lakhimpur, Majuli, Chirang and Sivasagar.
