Noted playwright, director, poet and writer Rafikul Hussain was conferred with the Lalilang Bata 2025 at a cultural function held at Nipun Deka Smriti Bhawan, Morigaon. The award recognises his long-standing contribution to Assamese drama, literature and social engagement through theatre.
About the Lalilang Bata
The Lalilang Bata has been instituted in memory of eminent drama artiste Nipun Deka.
It was presented for the first time by Lalilang The Theatre Rhythm, a premier theatre group of Morigaon.
The award comprises:
- A memento and citation
- A sarai (traditional Assamese honour)
- A cash award of ₹1,00,000
The award ceremony
Several cultural organisations, including Ramdhenu Natyagusthi, Sanmilita Natyagusthi, Samalai Natyagusthi, Asom Natya Sanmilan, and Lekhika Samarooh Samiti, felicitated Rafikul Hussain with traditional gamusa.
The programme began with a Borgeet, the ceremonial lamp was lit by Nirala Bora, daughter of late Nipun Deka.
