Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22 September 2025 laid the foundation for and inaugurated a set of major infrastructure and power sector projects in Arunachal Pradesh worth ₹5,125.37 crore. These projects aim to improve energy security, foster connectivity, and boost tourism and local economy in this strategically important northeastern state.

Key Projects Unveiled

• Tato-I Hydropower Project (Shi Yomi district):
  Capacity ~186 MW, joint venture between Arunachal Pradesh government and NEEPCO. Cost: ₹1,750 crore. Expected to generate ~802 million units of electricity annually.
• Heo Hydropower Project (Shi Yomi district):
  Capacity ~240 MW, also by the state government & NEEPCO. Cost: ₹1,939 crore. Expected annual generation: ~1,000 million units.
• Convention Centre in Tawang:
  To be built under the PM-DevINE scheme, cost about ₹145.37 crore. It will have a seating capacity of ~1,500 people, and will adhere to international standards to support culture and tourism.
• Additional infrastructure projects worth over ₹1,290 crore covering sectors like connectivity, health, and fire safety were also launched.

Significance

• Strengthens regional power infrastructure and reduces dependence on external supply by increasing local hydroelectric capacity.
• Boosts tourism and cultural infrastructure (e.g., Tawang convention centre) in border areas, which has strategic and economic importance.
