The Government of Assam has launched a new subsidised food distribution scheme to provide essential commodities like masur dal, sugar, and salt at affordable prices to families covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA)

  • The initiative, inaugurated by the Chief Minister at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, aims to strengthen food security and nutritional support for low-income households.

Key Features of the Scheme:

  • Beneficiaries: Nearly 70 lakh families (around 2.45 crore people) under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
  • Distribution Mechanism: Beneficiaries can collect items from 33,000 Fair Price Shops (FPS) using e-PoS biometric authentication during ‘Anna Seva Divas’ (1st–10th of every month).
  • Subsidised Prices (November–December 2025):
    • Masur dal – ₹69/kg
    • Sugar – ₹38/kg
    • Salt – ₹10/kg
    • Total – ₹117 per family per month
  • Further Subsidy from January 2026:

    • Sugar – ₹30/kg
    • Salt – ₹10/kg
    • Total – ₹100 per family per month
  • Dealer Incentive: FPS dealers receive ₹2 per kg for distributing these items.
