1. What is Digital Public Infrastructure?
Just as physical roads connect villages to big markets, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) acts as the “digital highway” that connects 1.4 billion Indians to essential daily services like banking, hospitals, and schools.
- For the Public, By the Public: India has built these digital systems as a “Public Good.” This means the basic technology is open for everyone to use and is not controlled by any single profit-making private company.
2. The Main Pillar: The JAM Trinity
India’s entire digital success stands on three basic pillars. Together, they ensure that government help reaches the right person instantly without any middleman:
- Jan Dhan (Bank Accounts): Giving every adult, even in the deepest village, a basic bank account.
- Aadhaar (Digital Identity): A unique, fingerprint-based digital ID card for every citizen.
- Mobile (Internet Connection): Affordable internet and smartphones that have turned a simple phone into a pocket bank and a classroom.
3. India’s Major Digital Successes
India has created several world-class platforms using this digital highway:
| Digital Platform | Simple Meaning for Exam |
| UPI (Payments) | The world’s largest and fastest digital payment system. It is now so successful that countries like France and Singapore are also using it. |
| ONDC (Shopping) | A government-backed network that allows small, local shopkeepers to sell online and compete fairly against giant companies like Amazon or Flipkart. |
| DigiLocker (Documents) | A highly secure digital wallet on your phone to keep your driving license and mark sheets, ending the need for carrying paper files. |
| eSanjeevani (Health) | A national online clinic that brings top city doctors to poor rural homes through simple video calls. |
4. India as a Global Leader
India is not keeping this powerful technology a secret. Following our traditional belief of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The World is One Family), India is actively helping over 20 developing countries build their own digital systems. This is called Digital Diplomacy, and it is making India a true leader of the Global South.

- The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is designed to help small local merchants sell their products online easily.
- India’s core DPI architecture is strictly patented and owned by a group of foreign private companies.
- The ‘JAM Trinity’ is primarily used to ensure that government subsidies reach the targeted poor citizens directly without leakages.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
