The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has invited proposals to establish Antariksh Prayogshala (Space Labs) in selected academic institutions to strengthen India’s space research and innovation ecosystem.
Key features:
- Objective: Promote hands-on training, applied research and innovation in space technologies.
- Coverage: Seven institutions, one from each geographical zone, ensuring regional balance.
- Funding support: Up to 75% of the project cost, with a ceiling of ₹5 crore per institution.
- Access model: Shared use by students, researchers, start-ups and industry.
- Selection: Two-stage process through a Request for Proposal (RFP).
Significance: The initiative bridges the gap between academic learning and industry needs, builds a skilled talent pool for the expanding space sector, and complements recent reforms encouraging private participation. It supports India’s push towards an innovation-led and self-reliant space economy.
