The PM is visiting Assam for two days, during which he will attend Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 in Guwahati and launch major infrastructure projects linked to culture, connectivity and conservation.
Bagurumba Dwhou 2026: Celebrating Bodo Heritage
- Bagurumba, a classical folk dance of the Bodo community, will be performed by nearly 10,000 artistes in a single, synchronised presentation at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati.
- Artistes from 81 Legislative Assembly Constituencies across 23 districts are participating, making it one of the largest cultural showcases of indigenous dance in India.
- Often called the “Butterfly Dance”, it symbolises blooming flowers, harmony with nature, and the rhythm of life.
- Traditionally performed by young Bodo women, with men accompanying them on instruments such as kham (drum) and sifung (bamboo flute).
- The dance is marked by gentle, flowing movements, arranged in circles and lines, reflecting butterflies, birds, leaves, and flowers.
- Each performer will receive financial honorarium and skill certification, reflecting institutional recognition of indigenous art forms.
- Dancers to get Rs. 25000 each and trainers to get Rs. 50,000
Infrastructure Push with Ecological Sensitivity
- On January 18, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project worth over ₹6,950 crore.
- The 86-kilometre project includes:
- 35 kilometres of elevated wildlife corridor through Kaziranga National Park
- 21 kilometres of bypasses
- 30 kilometres of highway widening
- The project aims to balance regional connectivity with biodiversity protection, ensuring safe animal movement, reduced human-wildlife conflict, and lower accident rates.
Rail Connectivity Boost
- Two new Amrit Bharat Express trains will be flagged off, strengthening rail links between the Northeast and Northern India, improving mobility for passengers and freight.
